Like most little girls, and lots of grown men, Juniper is quite obsessed with My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. As soon as I saw this ridiculously awesome Rainbow Dash costume on craftiness is not optional, I knew Juniper needed to be a pony. And since Flynn made a perfect little sidekick, we went with Twilight Sparkle and Spike!
The tutorial was perfect for Juniper’s costume. I only had to add the horn and leave off the wings. She really loved having a tail! But I messed up the hood a bit. I didn’t sew it deep enough so it kept falling off her head. We ended up tying it with a scarf to help it stay up better.
I had to tweak the tutorial quite a bit for Flynn’s, to add the spikes and tail. I am very happy with how it turned out! Flynn seriously was so stinking cute in it! He even walks like Spike. The costumes were quite warm, which was awesome. And even when people didn’t know who they were supposed to be, they were still a unicorn and a dinosaur.
We had so much fun trick-or-treating with Aunt Shannon and Stacy. They dressed up as Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash! Awesome. I almost wore my “space” costume from Saturday’s church party, but the stars kept stabbing me so I stole Shaun’s Brony shirt and went along with the MLP theme. It was a fun night, and we got LOADS of candy.

Hi! I’ve been googling twilight sparkle and spike costumes (my 2 & 3 year olds are desperate to be them!) and found your blog. If these costumes are still in good shape would you consider selling them? Or would you be able to make two costumes in time for Halloween? I don’t sew or own a sewing machine and I desperately need spike and twilight costumes. Just thought I’d ask!

If you can’t find the whole twilight sparkle costume I’d still be interested in buying the Spike costume by itself. Maybe I can manag to make a twilight sparkle from a hoodie & sweats or something. Won’t be as nice as yours but it could work. my kids are so determined they HAVE to be these characters but the only premade Twilight Sparkle costume I can find is just a silly dress with a picture on it. My daughter assures me that is NOT REALLY a twilight sparkle costume. She wants to be a pony ;p
