Two New Paintings

watercolor-portraits

First of all, I suck at coming up with blog post names. “Two New Paintings”? How boring is that?

I finished up these two paintings last week. The one on the right is 5×7, and the one on the left is 4×4. (Fun Fact: It happens to be the first Instagram painting I’ve actually sold. It’s going to the same home as these cuties!) I have two more 5×7 paintings in the works, and today I sold another one. I promptly used that money to buy new business cards, which I’ve been putting off for a while. I can’t wait to get them!

I’ve been thinking a lot about illustrating books lately. Mostly my own book, obviously. But I think it would be amazing to illustrate an actual, legitimate, published novel. Or a children’s book! Recently I added “Professional Fictional Cartographer” to my list of dream jobs. I have no idea where to even start looking for opportunities like that. And honestly, I don’t think I’m good enough yet to put the effort into doing a serious search. Of course, I probably won’t ever think I’m “good enough”, so that is a dumb reason to not go for it. SOMEDAY I will be a professional, full-time artist. In a couple of years when the kids are both in school and our house is paid off. And it won’t even matter that I don’t make any money, because I’ll have inherited a million dollars by then. Just you watch.

I’m feeling oddly motivated today. Maybe I’ll actually finish cleaning my art room tonight. Maybe.
